StoryCorps interviews and transcripts, 2009.

Set of three cds of interviews created for the StoryCorps project. StoryCorps is a nonprofit oral history project dedicated to documenting the lives of Americans of all backgrounds and beliefs. In July, 2009, StoryCorps visited Rochester, New York. This collection contains three interviews conducted at StoryCorps by Greg Lavidas, media relations director at NTID. Lavidas interviewed Robert F. Panara (NTID Professor Emeritus), T. Alan Hurwitz (NTID president), and Paul and Sally Taylor (Paul was a professor at NTID and Sally editor of Deaf Rochester newspaper). Each interview has a transcript as well.

The first Deaf faculty member at NTID, and a key figure in its history, Robert Panara was hired in 1967 to assist in establishing NTID on RIT's campus. He was instrumental in planning NTID's curriculum and preparing RIT's staff with ASL classes. He taught English at NTID and founded the Drama Club in 1970, which has grown into a full performing arts program with numerous productions yearly in the theater at NTID named in his honor.
